As a Soviet scientist, Roald Sagdeev knew Yevgeny Velikhov longest. The American scientists Richard Garwin, Frank von Hippel, and Thomas Cochran worked closely with Velikhov during the Gorbachev years, mainly to demonstrate experimentally how safe it would be for both sids to disarm their nuclear weapons.
