Olivier Rubin is a political scientist who studies "slow beginning" disasters, which are harder to get politicians to address than are such sudden shocks as earthquakes. He was already studying epidemics before Covid and now also studies anti-microbial resistance — a crisis that claims some 700,000 lives each year but is little recognized.
